Enjoy an evening full of food, music, and dancing while networking with other military-connected friends and colleagues. There will be a buffet-style dinner, cash-bar, and door prizes. Attire is formal (Gentlemen: Wear a tuxedo or a dark suit and tie with dressy leather shoes; Ladies: Wear a floor-length gown, a knee-length cocktail dress or little black dress with heels, or a dressy suit.).

PROGRAM

8:00-8:15pm             Receiving line operates & Cocktail hour begins.

Receiving Line: Guests are expected to arrive before the receiving line disbands. It is a courtesy, and therefore mandatory, for each guest to go through the receiving line.

The first person in the line will be an individual whose sole duty is to announce the names of the guests. Members should introduce their spouses/dates to the protocol officer, who will then make introductions to the host. This person doesn’t shake hands or carry on conversations. His job is merely to introduce the arriving guests to the next person in the line. The subsequent members of the line receive guests with the proper greeting.

As couples approach the line, the man moves to the right of the woman, so she is ahead of him, and states the woman’s name to the first person in line. The aide, or whoever is acting as the introducer, then turns to the first dignitary and introduces the woman. The dignitary shakes her hand, and says something similar to, “Good evening, Ms. Smith, nice to see you.” A reply on her part is appropriate. After the woman has been introduced, the man introduces himself to the aide. He then follows the same introductory procedure. Remember, extended conversation has no place in a receiving line.

8:35pm                       Bugler sounds Assembly.

8:35-8:45pm              Guests proceed to seating area.

8:45pm                       Bugler sounds Mess Call.

Please remain standing for the National Anthem.

8:45-9:00pm              National Anthem and Introduction of head table.

Protocol: Military. When the National Anthem or To the Color is played at the beginning or end of a program, military members should face the flag (or music) and stand at attention. Do not salute unless under arms.

Civilian. Men and women stand at attention and place right hand over heart.

Please be seated once the National Anthem has been played. Once all guests have been introduced, the aide then rises and proposes a toast, “To Our Guests.” All military personnel rise and respond, “Hear, Hear.”

9:00-10:30pm            Buffet dinner service

10:00-10:15pm         Toasts

Toasts: The proper procedure for guests to follow during all toasts is to take the toasting glass and hold it at waist level. When the toast is proposed, repeat the subject of the toast, raise the glass to eye level and then take a drink. For example, when the aide says, “Ladies and gentlemen, To the Flag of the United States of America,” celebrants should respond, “To the Colors,” and take a drink. Remember, no toasts other than those listed in the program should be offered.

Toasts are made to:     Toast - Response

To the Commander in Chief, the President of the United States – To the President
