Event Details

The William Penn Chapter of the Association of the United States Army is sponsoring an event with Drexel University in honor of Veterans Day, and we'd love to see you there.

The event centers on a viewing of the film, "War Comes to America," from the series "Why We Fight."  This series of seven documentary flims was commissioned by the U.S. government during World War II to show American soldiers the reason for U.S. involvement in the war.  They were later shown to the general U.S. public to persuade them to support American involvement.

"War Comes to America," like most of the films, was directed byt Frank Capra, who had enlisted after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and worked directly for the Chief of Staff of the Army, George C. Marshall.

Drexel professors of film and history will present the movie, and then participate in a panel discussion with military officers.

We are hoping to get a number of Senior and Junior ROTC Cadets to attend, in addition to a cross-section of Drexel students, and would love to also have in the audience members of our Philadelphia community who have been associated wtih the military.

A small donation of $7 is requested to help us defray the cost of the event audio-visual staffing.

Hope to see you there!

The Veterans Multi-Service Center (VMC) exists solely to “serve those who served” this great nation, our Veterans.

We are the only non-profit agency in the Philadelphia and surrounding areas that provides a comprehensive resource center available to all Veterans in need.  VMC was founded in 1980 to address the multiple needs of Vietnam Veterans.  Since that time our programs and assistance have grown and diversified to encompass the needs of Veterans of all wars and conflicts, up to and including Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation New Dawn.

Our Vision is to recognize, address and advocate for the evolving needs of Veterans, forward through time and generation, with an unselfish commitment to service through individualized assistance and support in a dignified and holistic approach.

Our Mary E. Walker House Transitional Residence is dedicated to the women of our Nation’s Armed Forces on their journey to finding a way home.

This 30-bed female transitional housing accepts applications from female Veterans across the nation.  Located on the grounds of the Coatesville VA Medical Center, Walker House and its staff strive to provide a comfortable, safe, and secure life-setting, while fostering respect, responsibility, and recovery.  The Mary E. Walker House is one of the largest female veteran transitional housing residences in the nation and has been recognized nationally for its work with Military Sexual Trauma Victims.  With a full commitment from the female Veteran, the Walker House has provided a path to a more secure and successful re-entry to the community to more than 300 women Veterans since its opening in 2005.

The Walker House mission is to offer a safe environment where women Veterans can stay, living in harmony with others, while they endeavor to attain personal growth and enhance life skills, in order to re-establish themselves as members of a community and regain ownership of their lives.
