Event Details

This educational series: Making the Connection: Veteran & Civilian Health Series is a 5 part series of seminars designed to bring attention to the needs of Veterans in Southeast Ohio through education and present the most current ideas and treatment options on a variety of topics experienced by Veterans and civilian communities.

  • The volume of veterans seen at the VA does not equal the amount of Veterans in the population.
  • Veterans not seen at the VA are either seen by traditional healthcare providers or are not treated by any healthcare provider.
  • It is not standard practice for traditional healthcare providers to ask if a patient is a veteran.
  • With the increasing amount of terrorism, natural disasters, mass causalities, economic crisis, and Healthcare Affordability Act in the US it can be expected that a civilian population will encounter many diagnosis that are experienced by wounded warriors and veterans and will be coming to traditional healthcare facilities to be treated.
  • Healthcare providers should be familiar with symptoms and care issues outside of And in addition to clinical medicine for those patients they will increasingly encounter on a day to day basis.

Overall Series Learning Objectives:

  • Demonstrate increased awareness of the transitional needs of returning service personnel.
  • Gain useful insight about the commomality of medical diagnosis of treatments for military service members and the civilian community.
  • Discuss the evolving justice system in response to the treatment needs of justice-involved Veterans and citizens.
  • Integrate fresh, new diagnostic perspectives and clinical skills into practice.
