Description

A Look Beyond the Military: Understanding the Women Veteran Experience, New Innovations for Mental Health, and Healing our Veterans

Purpose: Providing a understanding of women veterans and how they differ from male veterans in their transition during and after the military; exploring other innovations in mental health that can help reduce veteran suicide rates; healing veterans by providing means to access care, legislation and advocacy; provide empowering messages from guest speakers to encourage hope and inspiration to Veterans.

This summit will provide a better understanding of the Veteran community and our experiences and offer solutions to better our lives post separation.

The mission of the HEAL program is to eliminate barriers to access in healthcare for veterans nationwide. HEAL, which stands for healthcare, evaluation, advocacy, legislation, encompasses all necessary steps the team will take to intervene directly on behalf of veterans, service members, families, and caregivers to reduce veteran suicide, unemployment, homelessness, and hopelessness as it relates to mental and physical wellness, particularly for those who are affiliated with AMVETS and utilize Polytrauma/Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) centers and mental health services within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and community healthcare facilities.

AMVETS HEAL Training Online (http://learn.amvets.org/login/index.php), provides free courses to ensure veterans and their heal ambassadors receive the training necessary to reduce veteran suicide, unemployment, homelessness, and hopelessness as it relates to mental and physical wellness.

Note. This training is opened to all and a certificate is awarded to course-takers who have completed the AMVETS Suicide Prevention & Crisis Intervention Course.
