Event description

Description

VERVE THINK TANK // VERVE HQ London

Our VERVE Think Tanks (VTT) create forums and occasions to facilitate safe and comfortable moderated discussions on gender equality themes. We share what inspires us, what we are passionate about, what enrages us and what we want/can and will do about it.

For this VTT we are partnering for the first time with London based charity FORWARD who is “committed to gender equality and safeguarding the rights of African girls and women." They focus on female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage and obstetric fistula.

This VERVE Think Tank’s format will be a panel discussion with VERVE founder and CEO Anna Quick Palmer, FORWARD Executive Director Naana Otoo-Oyortey MBE, Angela Muruli: FORWARD's Africa Programme Officer and Solomon Zewolde: a researcher, educator and FORWARD volunteer change agent - followed by a Q&A and open discussion. We encourage our attendees to get involved and ask questions at any point in the evening.

VTT’s hosted in London by VERVE HQ are ticketed events where £5 of each £18 ticket is matched and donated to the partnered charity of that Think Tank. All funds for this event will go to FORWARD. All remaining ticket profits go directly back into hosting our VTT’s.

VTT tickets include: Food ~ Fizz ~ Feminist fun!

Raffle! To increase our impact - we will have three raffle prizes: A £50 bar tab at a London bar, VERVE + FORWARD swag pack and two tickets to join VERVE at The Guilty Feminist podcast live recording. Purchase your raffle ticket through this eventbrite or at event. Winner doesn't need to be present.

100% OF FUNDS RAISED THROUGH RAFFLE WILL GO TO FORWARD!

Some VTT backstory:

Previously our VERVE Think Tanks were exclusive to creating safe spaces for women - but in our constant commitment to tackling gender equality we are opening up our VERVE HQ Think Tanks in London to all genders.

Our VTT’s vary in theme - from Period Poverty to the #MeToo movement - to what feminist initiatives look like around the world. We’ve hosted over 20 community VTT’s in London raising thousands of pounds for women and girls organisations. Inspiring hundreds of women to take the next step in being an active ally in the world. We always end our VTT's with a 'call to action' to offer more ways to get involved - Whether its having a conversation with friends, reading a book about a VTT theme, writing a blog or doing volunteer work - everyone is encouraged to take the next step in a way that is manageable and comfortable to them. We’ve had women host their own Think Tanks within their network all around the world - from Tucson, Arizona to Toulouse, France to Auckland, New Zealand. As of last year we facilitated a year long trial bringing our Think Tank’s into the workplace tailored to a professional setting and have had such success with this format that we will be rolling out VERVE Think Tank for the Workplace in Spring of this year.
