Versed: The Holy Spirit -- Faith, Life, and Us

Imagine the living Bible. Imagine the spirit over the water; the Jordan River on the morning of Baptism. Imagine the still, quiet voice guiding the early Christians. What is the Holy Spirit?  What is its place in your life? How do you know? The Program Group on Youth & Young Adult Ministry invites you to explore the Holy Spirit in a series of four discussions led by Bishop John Taylor and guest speakers on Tuesday evenings this Fall. Together, young adults (21-39 years of age -- clergy or lay) will eat, learn and reflect on our Bishops’ teachings and become well ‘versed.’

Cost: $40 for the series. Dinner provided.

Location: Cathedral Center 840 Echo Park Ave. Los Angeles CA 90026. Join us from 7:30pm-9:30pm on Tuesday evenings. Dinner provided.

Week 1 - The Spirit Descends
In Jesus' baptism, we are shown that the Spirit is something that God sends to us to bless us and our world. How does the Spirit move in our lives? What are moments when you may have felt the Spirit's presence blessing what might have otherwise been an ordinary experience? When have you experienced the ordinary made extraordinary?

Week 2 – The Spirit Wrestles
In Paul's letter to the Galatians, he outlines the work of the flesh and contrasts that with the fruits of the Spirit. We wrestle all the time between the "fleshly desires" and the fruits of the Spirit we strive for. How do you experience that struggle? What does that tension feel like? How have you handled it? How would you like to handle it? Do you experience God's presence in that wrestling or do you feel isolated in it?

Week 3 – The Spirit Gifts
How do we focus our hearts and minds on the Spiritual gifts? We possess as God's beloved. How do we listen for and understand what our Spiritual Gifts are? How do we--can we—say yes to those gifts? How do we mourn/reconcile those gifts we may not have?

Week 4 - The Spirit Moves
We look at the story of Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts where the Spirit functions as supernatural force. Can the Spirit lead us to places we might never imagine? What does it feel like to let go of the wheel? How does the Spirit call us to people and places that are different, foreign, unknown, or uncomfortable? Why does the Spirit do this?
