Event description

Description

Venture College is offering an introduction and orientation to Lean Startup principles and the Business Model Canvas in this accelerated summer format. Participants in this non-credit program will meet at Venture College on Tuesday / Thursday evenings from 5 to 7 pm for three weeks, beginning Tuesday June 6th and concluding Thursday June 22rd. Participants will learn to develop and test assumptions using the Business Model Canvas, a one-page business plan used to organize customer discovery. You must have a business idea you wish to investigate to participate.

Both students and community members are encouraged to attend:

Early Bird Admission (through 6/1) $129.00

General Admission $199.00

Students $49.00

Who should attend?

Community members wanting a basic understanding of Lean Startup principles, those wanting to launch a business or a non-profit and interested students in higher education (Boise State and other universities or colleges). Industry service providers are also welcome. The Lean Business principles introduced are valuable to both new and existing businesses. Participants may be individuals or teams of up to four people.

What will the program cover?

Lean Startup is a process of rapidly creating and testing business model assumptions and "pivoting" or changing those assumptions when they are proven wrong. Participants will learn to develop and test assumptions and to use the Business Model Canvas, a one-page business plan, to organize those assumptions.

What is the program format?

Participants will meet as a cohort in the Venture College "Lab" each Tuesday and Thursday afternoon where they will present assumptions about their business model and the data they have collected to support those assumptions. Cohort members and Venture College facilitatiors will provide feedback.

What happens between labs?

This is a learn by doing immersion program in how to validate a business idea. To get the most out of this workshop, participants should plan to devote five to ten hours outside of each lab engaging with potential customers in a structured manner.

What to bring?

Be prepared to work hard, have fun and learn new, lifelong skills.

* Summer Sprint is a non-credit program.
