Whether you are a novice or a pro, this seminar will boost your clinical skills and your confidence. Held at the in New York City, NY, this continuing education seminar provides in-depth knowledge of intravenous therapy and venipuncture skills with hands-on participation to enhance the learning process. You will learn how to properly insert a peripheral IV catheter and understand important risks and complications associated with IVs.
The seminar content includes venous anatomy as it applies to IV therapy, legal aspects, short and long term vascular access devices, osomality and pH of infusates, implications of intravenous therapies, infusion flow control measures, infection control measures, PIV catheter insertion, peripheral IV catheter insertion technique, documentation guidelines and more.
Criteria for successful completion:
* Required attendance for the entire seminar on both days.
* Submission of completed evaluation
Certificate of completion with 7.0 contact hours of continuing nursing education will be awarded upon successful completion of the program. Instructional materials and a continental breakfast are also provided.
Who should attend: Registered nurses, nursing students, LPNs, and other healthcare professionals in the acute care and alternate care settings who wish to attain in-depth knowledge of intravenous therapy and obtain venipuncture skills.
Hands-on practice: There are several manufacturers and IV catheters. We do not endorse any products. We keep you informed of the latest advances in technology and practice guidelines.If you prefer to practice with specificvenipuncture products used at your facility, please bring a catheters for practice.
Goal: Attendees will learn to initate and maintain peripheral intravenous therapy.
Upon completion, participants will be able to:

Rose Koshy, RN, BSN, CRNI, VA-BC, a registered nurse for 36 years, entered the vascular access and infusion therapy arena in 1982. Rose worked in acute care and alternate care settings as an IV nurse, PICC nurse, home infusion nurse, clinical manager, director of nursing administrator, CEO and president of Midwest Healthcare Associates. Currently, she is the president and program director of Infusion Therapy Institute, vascular access consultant for 3M, and provides expert opinion and witness for infusion therapy and vascular access related medical-legal cases. Rose is an active member of the Infusion Nurses Society (INS), Association for Vascular Access (AVA), Illinois Nurses Association (INA) and Illinois Vascular Access Network (IVAN). She served AVA in the education committee; continue to serve INA as a CE peer review panel member. Rose was the prime organizer and first president, presidential advisor and the treasurer past treasurer of IVAN. She continues her passion for vascular access education through group and on-site educational programs.
April Swenson, RN, BSN, CRNI, VA-BC, has been a registered nurse for 33 years. She has 31 years of infusion therapy experience, encompassing peripheral IV, midline and ultrasound PICC insertions, central venous care and maintenance in hospital, nursing home and home health care settings. Currently she is a Clinician III Vascular Access Nurse in a level II trauma hospital in northwest suburban Illinois. She also is employed as an independent vascular access contractor, working for a company that has contracts with nursing homes and hospitals for vascular access services. Within the hospital, in addition to placing peripheral IVs and PICCs, April assists physicians with central line placements, provides patient education, and oversees the PICC program. In this capacity, she also provides in-services on IV therapy-related topics, precepts staff RNs, student nurses and new Vascular Access nurses. April is a member of INS and AVA, holding certifications in Vascular Access from both organizations. She is past vice president and president of Illinois Vascular Access Network (IVAN), a local chapter of the Association for Vascular Access (AVA), dedicated to promoting the prevention of vascular access complications. April is a clinical educator for Infusion Therapy Institute, teaching courses on phlebotomy, peripheral IV insertion and maintenance, midline and ultrasound PICC placement and central venous access care and maintenance.

Cancellation and Refund Policy for Seminars:
Phone cancellations must be confirmed in writing. Cancellations received four weeks prior to the seminar receive a full refund of the registration fee. Cancellations received after four weeks and up to seven days prior to the seminar are assessed a $50 processing fee. Cancellations received seven days prior to the seminar or “no shows” are nonrefundable. Registration fees are transferable to an upcoming seminar within the same calendar year (expires December 31 each year) or to another participant. In the event that a seminar is cancelled, a full refund will be issued.
