Description

The lecture will take place at 6.30pm on Tuesday, 1st May, at the Pichette Auditorium, Pembroke College.

Victoria “V.E.” Schwab is the #1 NYT, USA, and Indie bestselling author of more than a dozen books, including Vicious, the Shades of Magic series, and This Savage Song. Her work has received critical acclaim, been featured by EW and The New York Times, been translated into more than a dozen languages, and been optioned for TV and Film. The Independent calls her the “natural successor to Diana Wynne Jones” and touts her “enviable, almost Gaimanesque ability to switch between styles, genres, and tones."

Since 2013 the students of Pembroke College have organised an annual public lecture in honour of J.R.R. Tolkien. The purpose of the lecture series is to promote speculative fiction — including, but not limited to, the fantasy genre — as literature worthy of study and scrutiny, and to advance our understanding of it by hearing from some of the most influential and talented people working in the field today. It also acts as a fitting memorial to Tolkien, who was Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon at Pembroke for twenty years, and who wrote The Hobbit and much of The Lord of the Rings during his time at the college.

The lectures are sponsored by the Pembroke Annual Fund. More information on the series can be found on our website.
