Description

Vanessa Levin is a passionate advocate for high-quality early childhood education. She has worked extensively with programs that serve English Language Learners and at-risk populations for two decades. Vanessa is the author of A Fabulous First Year and Beyond: A Practical Guide for Pre-K and Kindergarten Teachers. She is the founder of www.pre-kpages.com, one of the most popular early childhood websites in the U.S.

This workshop will be geared towards preschool and transitional kindergarten educators. Throughout the day, Vanessa will be sharing the three following sessions:

Ready, Set, Read! What Comes First?

Do your students need help with letter identification skills? Learn the sequence and progression of skills that will help all young children develop alphabet fluency. You will be introduced to methods for teaching the alphabet all year long using fun, meaningful activities that your students will love. Alphabet fluency will develop naturally as your students engage in these creative, hands-on activities you can implement in your classroom now with little preparation.

Phonological Awareness Fun

Does teaching phonological awareness make you frown? Take your teaching from drab to fab with these hands-on activities that will engage students and get them excited about learning phonological awareness skills. Learn how to create fun, interactive games and activities that will turn your students into rhyming wizards, syllable superstars, and letter sound pros! We will explore the sequence and progression of phonological awareness skills to gain a deeper understanding of how young children acquire these crucial emergent literacy skills.

Keep Calm and Carry On!

There are days when managing an early childhood classroom can seem like you’re trying to herd kittens! Learn how to create a calm and caring classroom environment by implementing research-based strategies in your classroom. Motivate your students without the use of complicated and expensive reward systems. These tried and true techniques will help you establish trusting relationships with both parents and students that will make your job easier in the long run.
