Values in Action: Robert Lewis Jr.

About this Event
Join our conversation about Values in Action with values-driven leader, Robert Lewis Jr.
"You look a lot at what is said about young folks, in particular in urban communities. It says they're at risk, underserved, disadvantaged, right? It's all deficit language. Here at The BASE, it's all asset language. Too many urban cities in America have been portrayed as deficit. And the folks that live there are portrayed as deficit. We're changing that narrative, because the only thing our kids are at risk of is success." - Robert Lewis Jr.
About Robert Lewis Jr.
As Cheryl Kiser says, "Robert is a true creator. He uses a different operating system than others."
A Lewis Institute Senior Fellow in Social Innovation, Robert is well known as a bridge-builder, convener, and catalyst for collaboration among diverse business, civic, and public-sector entities in Greater Boston and beyond. Most importantly, he’s a tireless advocate for our urban youth, believing it is our moral obligation to help them succeed.
In 2013, Robert launched the BASE to shift the national mindset about what it takes for urban youth to succeed. Serving boys and girls, The BASE leverages their passion for baseball, softball, basketball, and esports to create pathways to higher education and meaningful careers through scholarships, academic support, and internships. The BASE continues to grow its national footprint, establishing an affiliated program in Chicago, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh.

About Values in Action
As Arthur Blank asks himself in his book, Good Company, "Are we as a company, worthy of our people’s lives? Are we honoring the time, the commitment, and the life energy that they bring their jobs every day?"
This series of conversations will explore how values-driven leaders across all sectors embed values into their organizations. We'll hear personal examples of what values matter most to their success when driving outcomes.
