Event description

Description

The idea of the value stream is based on the process view of organizations, the idea of seeing a manufacturing (or service) organization as a system, made up of subsystems each with inputs, transformation processes and outputs. Inputs, transformation processes, and outputs involve the acquisition and consumption of resources - money, labor, materials, equipment, buildings, land, administration and management. How value stream activities are carried out determines costs and affects profits.

Though broadly used, most organizations fail to realize the full potential of Value Stream Mapping (VSM). Often delegated, performed over an extended period of time, limited just to production processes or used as a tactical process-design tool, the real power of VSM is only realized if it is utilized as a strategic, management-engagement methodology.

In this hands-on workshop you will broaden your understanding of how to harness the true power of VSM as an effective management practice and extend its application throughout your organization. Learn how VSM is intended to be used as much more than a just a mapping technique, and when properly managed, results in an aligned, engaged and knowledgeable leadership team. Learn through discussion and hands-on activities about the ins-and-outs of organizational transformation using VSM in office and service environments – and how to scope, plan and execute these activities.

This highly-interactive workshop will integrate an overview of VSM principles and practices, together with mapping the Greenlee value creation process, (manufacturing facility), to help participants understand how to use the VSM methodology to drive effective transformations.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the purpose and benefits of Value Stream Mapping.
  • Get hands-on practice, and tips on, creating a Value Stream Map.
  • How to use Value Stream Mapping to build leadership consensus and engagement for developing a strategic-level transformation plan.
