Event description

Description

6th Annual Valley Fever Walk. An event to save lives through increased awareness and understanding of the disease also known as Coccidioidomycosis, or Cocci for short. The disease devastates the lives of those severely affected. Please share your concern and support by attending. If you are a survivor, be sure to be there by 7:45 so you can be in the picture! Last year we had 100. Hoping for 200 this year.

WALK - RUN - STROLL - SIT -- it is up to you! The most important activity is to visit the information tables that will be staffed by volunteers from the medical and professional community. The second most important activity is to cheer as VF Survivors lead the first lap of the approximately 1/8 mile loop around the reserved area.

August can be hot, so we make sure to start in the cool of the morning -gates open at 7:00 am -- and are finished by about 9:30. We gather under the remarkable established shade trees at Pioneer Village. We plan to have coffee and goodies, including fresh fruit, for you to enjoy along with coffee and lots of bottled water.

Admission is free for Survivors. For everyone else, except children under 12 who are also free, the entrance fee is $20 which includes your admissionn to Pioneer Village for as long as you want to stay that day. Those who register by July 20, the entrance fee includes a free event shirt in the size you request. Those who register after July 20 will be given a tee shirt as long as they last.

Scientific study has proven someone who already know about Valley Fever is likely to be diagnosed quicker than someone who does not. Common sense tells us early treatment is likely to result in better outcomes. So for yourself, for your children and friends, and any animals you care for, please be there for them and learn when to ask your doctor or veterinarian for a VF test.

FAQs

How long is the WALK? How far do I have to RUN? Can I just sit?

WALK - STROLL - SIT - RUN - It is your choice. THe "official" lap is just once around the paved path surrounding the Gazebo/Band Stand area at Pioneer Village, perhaps 1/8 a mile or less. We hope everyone can participate in the First Lap with the survivors, but if not - sitting in the early morning shade, enjoying the music and perhaps a cup of coffee and some fresh fruit, is a perfectly acceptable option.

When should I arrive?

The gate opens at 7:00 am. The information tables, games, refreshments will be available at that time. Please allow time to get to the reserved portion of Pioneer Village well before 8:00 am which is when opening remarks, the "all survivors photo", and the first survivor lap will take place.

Will there be a place to sit down?

Yes, there are benches and chairs.

Do I have to recruit a team and sponsors?

No. This is one of those events where all you have to do is show up! For many, we know that is hard enough! BUT you are welcome to create a team and invite friends and supporters to join. This is an option as you work through the order form. Any difficulty or question, please contact the event organizers.

Is there a "family" registration option this year?

No.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

All ages are welcome, and no ID necessary.

What can I bring into the event?

You are welcome to bring water or coffee, but both will be available at no charge during the event.

What about pets?

Unfortuately you cannot bring any pets along because of restrictions at the venue, but we hope to have veterinarians available for questions.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

661-832-1456 or info@valleyfever.com

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No
