Cassandra Lewis:
Cassandra Lewis & The Foxxtones has been aptly described as Cosmic Americana delivering a swirl of dulcet velvet heartache, personal hell and a hot mess of truth...
Simple, strong storytelling written from the life and mind of Cass, the proprietary member and mother of the den, reveals intricate experiences, deep feels, wailing pain, and self actualization...
Kitty Pak:
KittyPak has evolved into an ongoing creative communion bringing together some of the most dynamic and inventive sonic explorers on the Bay Area scene. Led by Dakini Star, vocalist for Goddess Alchemy, Kitty Pak usually features a disparate array of women, and for this YBG Festival show the lineup is a veritable supergroup. Virtuoso Jazz Mafia violinist Shaina Evoniuk and trombonist/vocalist Sophie Powers provide the instrumental heft. Freestyle rapper, poet, singer and MC Aima The Dreamer dishes out the verse while DJ Lady Ryan lays out the aural architecture and New York-trained jazz vocalist Katrina Blackstone delivers scintillating soul. With their graceful delivery and intelligent lyricism, these women are reclaiming sensuality via consummate musical artistry.
Hideo Date:
Born in Kagawa Prefecture and raised in Toyama Prefecture, Japan. He started playing guitar at the age of thirteen. He taught himself beginning with rock and then moved on to the blues. At the age of 24 he went overseas to the United States of America. Since then he made the city of Berkeley in the San Francisco Bay Area his home and base for his activities as a professional guitarist and instructor. Moving from acoustic blues to jazz, he created his own unique fingerpicking style with influences from Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell. Using A=432 Hz tuning, he seeks that profound and soothing sound that is the allurement of jazz guitar. Thanks to his long residence in America, although Japanese, he understands and expresses the philosophy of true American jazz and blues.
In 2016 He released a solo jazz guitar CD, 'The Artistry of Hideo Date." He tours and presents workshops annually in Japan. His 2 new CDs, "Hideo Date Plays Country Blues" and "New Jazz Guitar Sound of 10 Japanese Classics" are now available for digital download.
