In this day and age businesses are able to create global relationships and reach global audiences with their products. The internet is a tool used to attract new customers but for a business which fails to translate its website and localise its content, it won’t be able to attract the millions of potential customers out there that could be seeking its product.
Localisation is the process of adapting your content to a specific destination, ensuring that it has been translated and adapted in a culturally-sensitive way so that an audience on the other side of the world can feel right at home.
We're back for another evening of fantastic insight, content and networking at Foolproof's offices this month to explore Localisation!
We'll be joined by:
-
Niki Forecast - Senior Product Designer - what3words
-
Rita Quigley - Senior User Experience Consultant - Foolproof
-
Amelia Granger - Content Designer - Deliveroo
-
Anne-Sophie Delafosse - Project Manager - Deliveroo

TALKS & DISCUSSIONS
Niki Forecast - Senior Product Designer - what3words
Niki has worked in the digital industry for over eight years, and has led the design on over 40 projects for innovation, digital health, and fintech. She has worked on campaigns for global brands including PepsiCo and Sky, as well as social enterprises such as Greater Change; a donation app for homeless people in Oxford. Niki is now Senior Product Designer at what3words, where she works on the design and evolution of what3words products. In her spare time, she is a keen illustrator and is passionate about bringing more women into technology.
The user experience of current addressing systems is problematic. Postcodes are frequently inaccurate, GPS coordinates are error prone when manual entry is required, and street names are often duplicates. Mistakes are easy to make and hard to spot – often until it’s too late. In this talk, Niki will present what3words: a global solution to addressing, and discuss the UX requirements of giving an international app a localised feel. The talk will include user testing insights that led to a recent overhaul of the what3words app, with learnings relevant to any digital product team.
Rita Quigley - Senior User Experience Consultant - Foolproof
As researcher for more than 25 years, Rita draws from the full range of both quantitative and qualitative research methods to resolve the biggest challenges facing our clients.
Amelia Granger - Content Designer - Deliveroo
Amelia Granger is a content designer at Deliveroo, where she focuses on the user experience for people ordering from the app. Prior to Deliveroo, she designed content for Dropbox, Facebook, and NerdWallet. She’s also a writer and former journalist.
For Deliveroo, with its international reach and culturally-specific product — food — localisation is essential. But Deliveroo was also a scrappy, quickly-built startup that originally didn’t have localisation processes in place to match its rapid growth. In this talk, they’ll give an overview of the way localisation processes evolved from the company’s beginning, and how the creation of a localisation function on the content design team has lead to a better product for Deliveroo's international customers.
Anne-Sophie Delafosse - Project Manager - Deliveroo
Anne-Sophie Delafosse is a Localisation Manager at Deliveroo. She works on coordinating all the translations for Deliveroo as well as streamlining workflows. Before joining the team, Anne-Sophie worked in various translation agencies where she got the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of clients such as the United Nations, Barclays and Westfield.
