So many teachers love the great outdoors. They could teach outside all day, every day; but, there are just as many of us who would rather never have to go beyond the classroom door. This group understands the value of outdoor classrooms, learning from nature, and the importance of making math and science relevant and real to our students; however, we just don't enjoy getting hot, fighting the bugs, or dealing with allergies. Steve Rich, author of Bringing Outdoor Science In: Thrifty Classroom Lessons, recognizes the individual differences among teachers. He has worked with hundreds of teachers on both sides of the classroom walls and has been recognized for his work with two NSTA awards, the Ciba Exemplary Science Teaching Award and the Ohaus Award for Innovations in Science Teaching. Mr. Rich is a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and Past President of the Society of Elementary Presidential Awardees. His lively presentation created for PK - 6th grade teachers will assist all of us to take advantage of the many resources available...free resources in the south that will enhance our instruction, despite our predispositions, inside and outside the classroom door. Join us for a full day at the Bell Conference Center on the University of West Alabama campus.
