This open studio event will present the works of Veronika Seifert, Katya Kan, Edward Griffiths, Takuji Mizutani, Bridget Lee, Nadeem Daya, Emmet Wivo and Basil Olton. The main focus of this collaborative open studio space will be «utopian landscapes» : inner landscapes, which we create for ourselves as artists in order to transcend everyday reality. Derived from the Greek etymology of «no place», this notion alludes to Thomas More’s 1516 work «Utopia» which elaborates on this writer’s understanding of legal and political perfection. Rather than exploring « utopia » in a political and social sense, we will question the notion of desire and our relationship to the natural world. In terms of media, the exhibit present a series of oil and acrylic paintings, pen and pencil drawings, leather sculpture, ceramics and make-up products. Now, if that’s not enough, mulled wine and hearty winter snacks will also be on offer.
