DESCRIPTION

Utilizing the 5E Instructional Model as a framework for lesson design, teachers will delve into the new Louisiana Student Standards for Science focusing on the practice of science, the 5E Instructional model, and how to help students develop models to explain scientific phenomena. Teachers should bring fully charged laptops to the session. Educators will explore the 5E Model and have the opportunity to collaborate with other educators to create and share 5E Model lessons.Teachers are encouraged to bring in a lesson to redesign during the session.

Core Element Summer STEM workshops are no cost to teachers in the Greater New Orleans Region, which includes southeast Louisiana (please email tracey.zelden@core4kids.org or michelle.mangum@core4kids.org for information).

A $25 deposit (payable online at registration) is required to hold your place in each workshop. At the completion of each workshop, your deposit will be returned to you. Deposits for those not attending without written notice of cancellation one week prior to workshop will be forfeited.

STIPENDS AVAILABLE

Core Element will offer an Earth Science professional development Institute for teachers in grades 6-8 to help understand and implement the new Louisiana Science Standards. A stipend of $50 stipend is available to educators who attend the four hour institute.
