Utilizing Technology to Protect Freedom of Expression:
Microsoft & the UN Advancing Human Rights

Zeid Raad al Hussein, UN Brad Smith, Microsoft  Alexa Koenig

Please join us for the Haas School of Business Dean's Speaker Series at UC Berkeley for a highly-anticipated discussion on freedom of expression with Brad Smith, Microsoft’s President and Chief Legal Officer and His Excellency Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Alexa Koenig, Executive Director of the Human Rights Center at Berkeley Law, will take on the role of moderator for this intriguing discussion.

Microsoft recently announced a five-year partnership with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).  The partnership’s objective is to use technology to promote and protect human rights around the world.

With these ambitious plans underway, our guests will explore questions around the right to freedom of expression, including:

  • What are the most pressing risks to freedom of expression today?
  • What is the role of business in protecting this right?
  • How can technology be used to promote and protect freedom of expression?

Doors will open at 11:15 AM.  The event is open seating. Please arrive on time so we may begin promptly at 11:30 AM.

A light boxed lunch will be provided at the close of the event.
