This Mountain Adventures course in a partnership with Cottonwood Canyons Foundation, and will take place in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons near Sandy.  Class times are 9am-5pm on Saturdays, June 1 & 29, and July 20 during the Alta day of the Wasatch Wildflower Festival.  We will meet at Granite Park at 2725 East Grouse Creek Circle (10000 South), in Sandy on the first day, June 1.

You will be given access to the Mountain Adventures online course approximately one month prior to the start of the field course, and you will need to complete the online course before the field course begins.

This is an adult education program that is open to participants 18 years of age and older.  Exceptions for teens as young as 15 may be made if a parent/guardian is also registering for the course.  Please email Mark Larese-Casanova at marklc@usu.edu if you would like to bring a child as young as 15.

Course Description
Some of the greatest ecological diversity and scenic beauty in Utah exists in the forest and alpine environments. Throughout these ecosystems, temperature, elevation, and precipitation play an important role in defining plant and animal communities and their interactions. Come join us while we explore these systems and learn about how they function, the plants and animals that live there, and how they are managed.
Class size is small in order to maximize your opportunities for learning and having fun!

Each Utah Master Naturalist course consists of 40 hours of instruction, with approximately 16 hours covered in the online course, and the remaining 24 hours spent outdoors in a field course.  Field course activities will include instructor-led discussions, guest presentations on relevant resource issues, small group activities, and open discussions.

Due to the nature of the Mountain Adventures course, we will be walking and hiking over uneven terrain, often in rocky environments.  While we do our best to accommodate people of all abilities, please contact Mark at marklc@usu.edu if you have any concerns.  Participants should be comfortable hiking in steep terrain.

.  Students may pay tuition and register for WATS 6900 to earn three (3) USU graduate credits for each Utah Master Naturalist course.
