 UTAH CASTING CLASSIC

The Utah Casting Classic is a fun, free event, where you can showcase your casting abilities as you compete against some of Utah's best. The contest includes:

  • One youth division — spin casting distance — which is split into two age groups: 12–14 years old and 15–17 years old. Up to 60 youth may compete in each age group. Youth with competitive experience may also choose to participate in the adult divisions.
  • Four adult divisions — spin casting distance, bait casting distance, bait casting accuracy, and fly casting distance — for individuals who are 18 and older. Each adult division has a maximum of 60 participants.

The winner of each division will receive an exciting prize and earn bragging rights as one of Utah's best competitive casters. Spots will fill up quickly, so learn more and sign up today.

RULES

The event will be conducted using American Casting Association rules and regulations, including plug weights, measuring protocols, scoring criteria and distance calculation. Competitors must use equipment provided by the hosts, unless otherwise noted.

DIVISION CATEGORIES

Spin Casting — The total distance of three casts is added together to calculate the total distance score.

Bait Casting Distance — The total distance of three casts is added together to calculate the total distance score.

Bait Casting Accuracy — Competitors accumulate points by hitting targets during a three-minute heat. After hitting five targets in order, competitors may hit the target(s) of their choice in the time remaining to accumulate as many points as they can. Ten points will be awarded for each target completed successfully within three minutes. Equipment: Rod may not exceed an overall length of 8 feet. There are no reel or line restrictions.

Fly Casting Distance — The total distance of three casts is added together to calculate the total distance score. The point where the fly first strikes the casting surface in front of the casting box during a final forward cast determines the distance. No penalty is assessed for the loss of a fly or for a lost fly falling onto the casting surface. A cast is invalid and receives a score of zero if any of the following conditions apply:

  • A caster performs a final forward cast without being in the box.
  • A cast was directed in a way that the fly cannot land on the casting surface.
  • A caster retrieves line before the judge calls “score.”
