Description

Learn the art and skill of shearing sheep the proper and most effective way! This course will teach you about proper shearing exercises, shearing clothing and equipment, caring for and maintaining equipment, and sharpening combs and cutters.

  • Classes run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on January 12, 13, and 14, 2017

  • Lunch will be provided

  • Students should bring their own clippers

  • Suitable for beginners and advanced shearers

  • Hotel accomadations can be found in Logan (about 8 miles away the farm)

  • Students will need to arrange transportation to/from farm (carpooling is encouraged)

  • Be prepared to work hard and get dirty!

The course is taught by Doug Rathke, a certified instructor of the New Zealand Wool Board, and Anthony Steinfeldt, an experienced sheep shearer.

This course is sponsored by Utah State University, the American Sheep Institute, Utah Wool Growers, Utah Wool Marketing Association, the American Sheep Shearing Academy, and Horner Shearing.

*If seats remain, on-site registration will be availble for $275 (general registration) and $310 (registration with continuing education credits).
