ENTERTAINMENT

Hanger Bay 2:

The Hornet Band

Flight Deck Main Stage:

Steady Rollin Band (Traditional Bluegrass) 3pm - 3:45pm
Bio: The Steady Rollin’ Band, Hailing from all over the SF Bay Area, The Steady Rollin’ band brings their own unique twist to traditional and modern bluegrass and acoustic music.  Covering the gambit from originals to familiar old standards, SRB’s vocal harmonies and driving rhythm will get your feet tapping and your heart pumping.

Tempest (Celtic Rock) 4:15pm – 5:30pm
Bio: Since forming in 1988, Tempest has delivered a globally-renowned hybrid of high-energy Folk Rock fusing Irish reels, Scottish ballads, Norwegian influences and other world music elements. The last 28 years have seen the San Francisco Bay Area based act release fifteen critically acclaimed CDs and play more than 2,000 gigs. It's also enjoyed an evolving line-up that's enabled musicianship and creativity to rise with each new member.

Swingin' Blue Stars (Vocal Jazz) 6pm - 6:45pm
The Swingin' Blue Stars is a group of talented singers from the East SF Bay area.  We perform close harmony, swing style music made popular by 1940’s female vocal groups such as the Andrews Sisters.  We sing and dance to “people-pleasing” music, mixing saucy and romantic WWII tunes that appeal to a variety of audiences, whether young or elderly.

Stompy Jones (Swing/Blues) 7:15pm – 8:30pm
Little David Rose's thumpin' stand-up bass, the double-shuffle drumming of Lee Beary, and the bounce piano of Scott Lawrence provide the rhythmic foundation of the band's jump style. Riffing on top is the trumpet sound of Robert Dehlinger and Jeff "Erv" Ervin on the saxophone. These two fellas create the fireworks of vintage rhythm and blues. The charming Glen Earl Brown Jr on vocals and have become a trademark of Stompy Jones. KQED, California Report interviewed Stompy Jones band leader & bass player, Little David Rose about his original San Francisco song "New Direction", take a listen!

The Hornet Museum

The USS Hornet is one of the most decorated ships in naval history, participated in WWII and the Apollo 11 & 12 recovery missions. Now serving as a world-class sea, air and space museum, the USS Hornet is permanently docked at the former Naval Air Station in Alameda, educating and delighting generations of visitors annually.

Explore several lovingly restored areas including the flight deck, captain’s bridge, sick bay, pilot ready rooms, Marine berthing, and much, much more. Exhibits include the Apollo Moon Mission, the 442 Regimental Combat Unit, Hornet Legacy Room, Women in the Military and three new exhibits.

The USS Hornet Museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, not funded by any governmental or public agency. All proceeds from this event go directly toward the restoration and preservation of this National Historic Landmark. Thank you for supporting this national treasure on the 4th of July and throughout the year.

 FAQs - July 4 Party (2017)

1) How much do tickets cost?

See our ticket list for options.  Advance tickets are strongly encouraged for faster onboarding.  You can buy a museum membership in advance or at the ship and your admission price is waived. This year we are selling 100 VIP Tickets that must be purchased in advance.  VIP tickets include a docent-led tour of the 3rd deck (this deck is not open to the general public and each tour group is limited to 12 guests). Upon arrival, visit Orientation to select your tour time.

Ticket price is good for all-day admission – guests are welcome to tour during the day, leave, and return by 9:00 PM.

2) What time should I be there?

The gates open at 2:00 pm to avoid conflicting with the Alameda's annual parade. You may enter at any time until our Admission Desk closes at 9:00 PM.  Visit our website for updates and the band schedule so you don't miss your favorite.  If you want to use the Kids Zone, it is open until 8:00 PM (not a drop-off option).

3) How late does the evening go?

The event ends after the SF fireworks — approximately 9:45 PM.

4) Does the ship go anywhere?

No. The engines do not function and the ship remains permanently tied to the pier.

5) How should I dress?

We encourage guests to dress in layers. It’s warm during the day but can get chilly and windy on the Flight Deck at night.

6) How is the seating arranged? Is there any reserved seating?

All seating on the Flight Deck is available on a first-come basis. You are welcome to bring your own portable folding chair or a blanket.

7) Are food and beverages included in the ticket price?

No, but a great selection of food can be purchased for a nominal charge at one of the food concessions. Participating restaurants may include Joe’s Grill (hamburgers and hotdogs) , Grilled Cheese Guy, Travelin' Joe, BBQ and more being confirmed.

 8) Am I allowed to bring food & drinks?

No, unless it is baby food for an infant. Bringing such items would be in violation of our health permit so we appreciate your understanding.  Food and beverages will be available for purchase on the ship and we encourage you to support these vendors.

9) Is there a bar? How much do drinks cost?

There will be no-host bars on both decks selling a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Beverage prices range from $1.00 up to $15.00 for special cocktails.

10) Am I allowed to bring a folding chair?

Small folding chairs with carrying strap are acceptable.

11) Is there an ATM machine onboard?

No, we do not have an ATM machine onboard the ship. However, some of our food and beverage concessions accept credit cards, and our Ship’s Store and Ticket Desk accept credit cards for purchases only.

12) Is there plenty of parking? How much does it cost?

Yes. Free parking across the street and down the road from the ship.

 13) Are people under 21 years old allowed?

Yes, this is an event for everyone to enjoy.  We have special activities planned for children, including carnival games and a bounce house.

14) How many people usually attend this event?

The attendance averages over 2,000 guests throughout the day. It’s a big ship with plenty of room and activities.

15) Is this a safe and secure event?

We have plenty of security personnel to provide a comfortable, reassuring and safe evening for everyone aboard, but you are responsible for your possessions.  We have a limited amount of lockers to rent if that feels safer for you.

16) What activities will be on the ship?

Tours, interactive games, a Kids Zone, bounce house, sit in one of our cockpits and take a ride in the flight simulator.

 17) What bands are peforming?

The set list is being finalized so visit our website for the full schedule but we anticipate 4-5 peformers

18) Will tickets be available at the door?

Yes, but we do strongly encourage buying in advance to save some wait time.

19) Is the event free for veterans?

We are unable to offer free admission to veterans for this fundraiser, however, veterans can board the ship for free on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. If they are already a member or volunteer on the ship, they receive free admission.

20) Can I use a Discover & Go Pass or a Boarding Pass I received from another group?

No. As this is a fundraiser to support the museum, Discover & Go passes from libraries and boarding passes given to other non-profits for their fundraiser will not be accepted for this special event.

All Sales are Final.

For their safety, children under 12 MUST be supervised by an adult at all times.
