Description

Using the Gig Economy for Entrepreneurs and Freelancers

Independent work, freelancing, on-demand jobs - call it what you will, but the gig economy is here to stay. It's projected that on-demand work will post more than 18% annual growth by 2020. In New York City, gig economy participation increased more than 200% from June 2015 - June 2016, the fastest growth rate in the nation. Gig work is available in many sectors, including professional services, manual labor, caregiving, IT support, and more, and can be accessed through dozens of platforms such as TaskRabbit, UpWork, and LinkedIn. Gig work provides a flexible way to earn income and a channel for marketing goods and services.

Small business owners, entrepreneurs, and freelancers are well positioned to take advantage of the gig economy. This course will prepare you to develop your personal brand online, find and secure gig work to earn supplemental income, market your business through the gig economy, and manage your time and finances as you engage in this new way of working. While it is not required, it is recommended that you bring a laptop with you.
