About this event
This tour has been approved for 1 GBCI CE and 1 AIA LU!
This event will not accept at-door registrations.
The College of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University opened its new LEED Silver Certified Engineering Research Building in February of 2021. The four-story, 133,000-square-foot facility significantly expands the college’s laboratory capacity for advanced research. It also supports economic development initiatives and hands-on engineering education. The ERB extends and connects the building shared by VCU Engineering’s East Hall and the VCU School of Business’ Snead Hall. Its fully equipped Collaboration Hub and Innovation Courtyard are designed to knit together the three buildings in an open, light-filled space. The design also features specialized workspaces. One of the most notable of these is the Innovation Maker Facility, a makerspace equipped with resources for hands-on prototyping and creative, experiential learning, 3D printing, bench electrical fabrication, tabletop equipment and hand tools, industrial-scale mills and lathes and more.
The design and project management team will lead a walking tour of the building and its defining features; discussing the vision, strategies, and challenges of creating a contemporary, sustainable, and resilient engineering research facility for VCU.
