Event description

Description

Join USGBC Tennessee for our June Luncheon: Parksmart - Driving Towards Sustainable Mobility.
Presented by Melissa Doughty, PE, LEED AP BD+C, Parksmart Advisor, and Civil-Structural Department Manager at Jacobs Engineering in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Sponsored by Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation - Office of Energy Programs

Transportation in the U.S. now emits more greenhouse gases than power plants. Parking is one of the largest land uses in cities. Vehicles are parked about 95 percent of the time.

Come learn about the theory and background behind Parksmart certification, the basic concepts of the Standard, and practical implementation of the program.

Parksmart (formerly Green Garage Certification) is the only rating system designed to advance sustainable mobility through smarter parking structure design and operation. Parksmart is a voluntary, consensus-driven standard that guides projects toward innovative, solutions-oriented strategies that benefit everyone from building owners and property managers, to tenants and drivers. Parksmart encourages thoughtful siting and design, best-in-class facility management practices, and innovative technologies.

The high-performance structures, technologies and practices of Parksmart certified garages reduce energy consumption, maximize performance, and minimize waste, and encourage biking, car sharing, carpooling and alternative fuel vehicles.

Speak Bio:

Melissa Doughty (PE, LEED AP BD+C, Parksmart Advisor) discovered the Green Garage Certification Program in January of 2015, recognized the potential value and impact on our built environment, and decided to serve on the Certification Committee at the Green Parking Institute. This role expanded into helping to grow the Surface Parking Committee and identify Demonstrator Sites for the fledgling working group. She continues to promote Parksmart (formerly Green Garage Certification) through her role with the USGBC Ohio Market Advisory Leadership Board and as Civil-Structural Department Manager at Jacobs Engineering in Cincinnati, Ohio.
