Topic: From Existing Building to High Performance Workplace

About: In 2016, CR Magazine published a list of the most sustainable corporate headquarters. On the list, were leading companies including Saint-Gobain CertainTeed. Instead of building a ground up, new corporate headquarters, Saint-Gobain CertainTeed transformed a 275,000 SF existing office building into a state-of-art headquarters incorporating innovative solutions for energy use and a premier environment for employees. The project recently achieved LEED v2009 for Core & Shell Development Platinum certification and LEED v2009 for Commercial Interiors Platinum certification. An overview of the challenges and opportunities that were part of transforming an existing 1960’s building and campus will be presented. This session will take a deep dive into how Saint-Gobain Corporation developed an innovative and vibrant corporate headquarters that acts as a living laboratory for Saint-Gobain Corporation showcasing many of their own energy conserving products including Sage Glass dynamic glazing, a PV array on the roof, and LED lighting.

Objectives:

  1. Describe how Saint-Gobain’s Corporate Social Responsibility program contributed to the development of the sustainability and LEED certification goals of the project
  2. Summarize how major renovations of existing buildings reduce carbon footprint and meet the requirements of MR credit 1: Building Reuse in the LEED BD+C v2009 Rating System.
  3. Explain how innovative material selection contributed to Pilot Credit 52 Material Multi-Attribute Assessment under LEED BD+C and ID+C v2009 Rating Systems, while working within the constraints of a renovation.
  4. Explain how dynamic glazing contributed to achievement of EA credit 1: Optimize Energy Performance under the LEED BD+C v2009 Rating System, using Saint-Gobain CertainTeed’s Headquarters as an example.

This LEED specific webinar being offered is worth 1.0 LEED BD+C specific credit.
