This session is designed for green building and real estate development professionals who would like to learn more about designing and developing green affordable multifamily projects in the DC metro area. It will provide a high-level overview of Washington, D.C.’s affordable housing development regulations and tax credit program, Enterprise Green Communities Criteria and future program trajectory, and view into how WC Smith developed their LEED Gold and Platinum buildings. This session is ideal for project teams looking for better insights tackling the complicated and ever-evolving landscape that is the green Multifamily and Affordable Housing market.

USGBC National Capital Chapter is excited to invite you to our first green affordable multifamily educational panel. As density in the built environment continues, growing concerns about gentrification and affordable housing are beginning to bump up against the costs and benefits of green, healthy, and resilient construction. There is no better example of this than the District’s current landscape.

Join us as panelists from the District’s green code team at DCRA, leading affordable housing program Enterprise Green Communities, and a seasoned expert in green and multifamily from WC Smith discuss the challenges, opportunities, and incentives facing today’s affordable multifamily projects in the District. Panelists will offer their experience insights and perspectives of the lifecycle of an affordable housing project going green from code, what it takes to go beyond code, how the most popular affordable housing green building certification is evolving.

Networking with food and beverage will start at 5:30PM and panel discussion will start at 6:00PM. We encourage attendees to stick around for networking after presentations and open panel Q&A discussion.

Speakers:

- Ali Alaswadi, Green Building Inspector, DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs

- Dave Epley, Green Building and Sustainability Program Manager, DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs

- Pam Askew, Senior Vice President, WC Smith

- Shelby O'Neill, Green Communities Associate, Enterprise Green Communities
