Event description
Join us for a virtual, interactive session on how a circular economy will promote a better standard of living for all.

About this event

Join the Mid-Atlantic and New England (MANE) region of USGBC for a virtual, interactive session on how the promoting a circular economy within our region will promote a better standard of living for all.

In its second generation, the USGBC is guided by our four pillars: sustainability, resiliency, health, and equity. We remain committed to a sustainable and equitable world. Now more than ever it is important that we examine our programming through each lens of our guiding pillars. The road map forward must ensure a more sustainable, resilient, and healthier world for all.

As part of this continuing engagement, the Mid-Atlantic and New England (MANE) region is hosting a series of thought leadership panels in 2021 to draw attention to issues surrounding each of these pillars. These events will feature leaders from within our communities to discuss the topic at hand, analyze the challenges and offer strategies and pathways to address them.

In 2019, the Allan-McArthur Foundation stated that the circular economy could generate over $1 trillion of annual savings globally by 2025. We can keep our current methods of continuous improvement, while at the same time pushing out in all directions. Our existing tools and strategies need to be rethought, rebuilt, re-engineered, re-envisioned, re-calibrated and remade to promote a completely new way of thinking about what resource usage means to all humankind in the 21st century.

The potential benefits of shifting to a circular economy extend beyond the economy and into the natural environment. By designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating rather than degrading natural systems, the circular economy represents a powerful contribution to achieving global climate targets.

Please join us as we examine how businesses would benefit significantly by shifting to a mindset in line with the principles of the circular economy. These benefits include the creation of new profit opportunities, reduced costs due to lower virgin-material requirements, and stronger relationships with customers and impact the communities and how we live, work and play in our communities.

Learning Objectives: Attendees will be able to:

  • Trends promoting a circular economy
  • Sustainable choices for the whole life cycle
  • Materials selection and accountability
  • Learn how LEED v4.1 credits advance circularity goals.
  • Participate in a moderated discussion about how the everyday choices we make impact our planets health

Support our Mission

Make a donation to help us raise the living standard in communities everywhere

Despite the great uncertainty of the weeks and months ahead, as an organization USGBC must keep moving forward and be the embodiment of resiliency. As the leading voice on green building, we are working every day on behalf of our community of builders, educators and sustainability professionals. The contributions made by our USGBC community over the past 26 years have helped further the green building marketplace and our mission greatly. Your gift will help support what matters most within our buildings: people. Our focus must be on people because the standards we are most committed to raising is that of the quality of life itself—for every member of this community, and in populations spanning every corner of the planet.

Even though we are apart, there’s still a lot our community can do together: In response to the global pandemic, USGBC has decided to transform our 2021 events from in-person gatherings to live digital experiences.
