USGBC Maryland’s Women in Green Committee invites you to attend the panel presentation “Women Leading in Challenging Times.” Join our impressive panel as they explore leadership and practice in Green Building.
Women in Green is a worldwide leadership platform creating space for women who are shifting the narrative on empowerment, access and impact in the clean energy economy. As old paradigms are challenged, a new roadmap emerges that is challenging how progress is measured, who defines those indicators and what and whom is missing from the leadership table as we unfailingly work to raise the quality of life for all.
USGBC is committed to a sustainable, prosperous future through LEED, the leading program for green buildings and communities worldwide. Women play an integral part of that future for ALL.
Speakers:
Alicia Wilson, VP for Economic Development at Johns Hopkins University
Alicia Wilson is the Vice President for Office of Economic Development at Johns Hopkins University & Johns Hopkins Health System in Baltimore, Maryland. She leads a core team driving Johns Hopkins’ strategy and initiatives as an anchor institution in and around Baltimore, and elevating and expanding the institution’s’ commitment to the city through investments in economic and neighborhood development, health care, and education. Wilson, a native Baltimorean, holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
Cynthia Shonaiya, Principal at Hord Coplan Macht
Architect Cindy Shonaiya has 30 years of professional experience , spanning three continents. She is a principal at the Baltimore-based architecture firm Hord Coplan Macht, and leads the Senior Living practice. She is passionate about creating vibrant, engaging, sustainable environments for older adults, and believes in empowering Seniors by designing communities that allow them to thrive and live with dignity. She has been Principal-in-Charge of over 100 senior living communities, including the AIA Design for Aging winner Brightview Bethesda Woodmont, which recently achieved LEED Gold.
Leana Houser, Waste Reduction and Recycling Manager at Johns Hopkins University
Leana Houser is the Waste Reduction and Recycling Manager for Johns Hopkins University, working to engage all members of the Johns Hopkins community to reduce the generation of waste and encourage the responsible reuse and recycling of materials. She has been committed to sustainability issues for her entire year career at Hopkins which began in 2003, including receiving her Master's in Environmental Science and Policy from the JHU Advanced Academic Programs. Her dedication to protecting the health of the environment and the people in it began camping every summer as a child and carried through to rural St Mary's College of Maryland where she earned a BA in Public Policy and continues ever stronger as a proud resident of Baltimore City.
Nakita Reed, Associate at Quinn Evans
An award-winning architect with experience throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Nakita Reed is skilled in the preservation, restoration, and adaptive use of historic buildings, with a focus on sustainable strategies in design and construction. She has a Master of Architecture and a Master of Science in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia. She is a registered architect, a LEED®-Accredited Professional, and was the gubernatorial appointee to chair the Maryland Green Building Council from 2018-2020.

Coretta Bennett, Director of Operations, Design & Construction at Johns Hopkins University
Coretta Bennett joins JHFRE as the first Director of Operations, Design & Construction. She has over 20 years of experience in operations, construction, sustainability, and renewable energy. A native of Baltimore, she is a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Morgan State University’s Civil Engineering program and also earned a Master’s of Business Administration from Rutgers University. Additionally, Coretta holds the designation of LEED AP, BD+C.
We encourage men to attend as well, this is an open space for all to learn!
Cost:
This event will be $10 for General Admission. Local members will be able to register for free with their member code.
Please note: Ticket refunds can be issued up to a week before this event. Seven days or less, we will provide a refund but a 25% service fee will be withheld. Day of the event we will not provide a refund.
