Join USGBC Colorado's Southern Branch on an exciting hard hat tour of University of Colorado, Colorado Springs' Ent Center for the Arts building! This massive 80,000 square foot building, $70 million project is seeking LEED v2009 Gold Certification. The building is expected to be completed by January of 2018. This building is a transformational, state-of-the-art facility hub for the Department of Visual and Performing Arts as well as a synergistic and innovative collaboration involving the university, the VAPA department, community arts partners and local school districts. The project has a goal of 30% energy savings and will also pursue an innovation credit for acoustics.

The new Ent Center for the Arts will house:

  • A 774-seat theater / concert hall
  • A 245-seat Chapman Foundations recital hall
  • The Gallery of Contemporary Art (GOCA)
  • The Dusty Loo Bon Vivant Theater (THEATREWORKS)
  • The VAPA Interdisciplinary Arts Lab
  • The Osborne Theater
  • Recording studio & audio laboratory
  • Rehearsal, instructional and office spaces for Music, Theatre & Dance

Learning Objectives:

1. Discuss the projects aim towards LEED v2009 BD+C New Construction EAc3 Enhanced Commissioning.

2. Explain how the project is seeking to earn 10 points towards Gold level certification through LEED v2009 BD+C New Construction EAc1 Optimized Energy Performance by a 30% energy cost savings.

3. Learn how the center is pursuing LEED v2009 BD+C New Construction EDc1 Innovation in Design points through advanced acoustics throughout the building's theaters, halls, and recording studios.

4. As a group, discuss the innovations within the project and how it will evolve the technologies within art centers through higher education campuses.

This tour is approved for 1.5 LEED BD+C GBCI hours and 1 AIA learning units.
