This event is brought to you by Cascade SF for SF Design Week.

Join us for an evening to learn how product teams in large corporations integrate research into the design process. User Researchers will present a series of lightning talks and a panel to spotlight:

  • Their roles and responsibilities, and organizational structure in relationship with the design team

  • How to select research methods based on team goals and timeline

  • Why specific methods work better than others

  • How to communicate findings to your team

  • Unconventional and creative methods of research that led to big discoveries

  • And more. There’s always more



"Storytelling Your Research"

Sunny will teach us about the collaborative research process she uses at LinkedIn. We'll also learn how she assembles presentations to share new data and findings with her team.

Sunny is a user researcher at LinkedIn on the Jobs team. Her team aims to build a delightful experience for you to search for your next job opportunity. Before Jobs, Sunny led user research for the LinkedIn Premium.

Before LinkedIn, she was the first UX Researcher at Grand Rounds, a healthcare startup. Sunny established a research practice across the company that integrated into the product.

Sunny has a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology. She conducted academic research studies before pivoting to user research for product teams.



"Traveling to Nigeria for User Research"

Kelly will share her experience of traveling to Nigeria, where she led a 3-week ethnographic research study with her team at Visa. We'll learn about interesting challenges, product testing pitfalls, and her methodologies.

Kelly's design career started as a toddler. She perfected her crayon sketching abilities on her mom's laundry room wall. Nowadays, Kelly works with leads product design teams to create exceptional experiences. She combines her design education, experience in user research, and new business developments.

Kelly is passionate about infusing design into business and technology led practices. She's worked at small start-ups and within larger Fortune 100 companies.

Claire Menke is the Head of UX Research at Udemy, an online learning marketplace. At her core, Claire believes in empowering communities of people through research. In her former life, Claire was a Stanford-trained field anthropologist. She studied ecotourism and sustainable development. She has since established the UX Research function at two education technology start-ups.

A lifelong learner, Claire is currently teaching herself how to bake sourdough bread, quilt, and crochet.

Sarah Gregory
User Research Lead
Coinbase

Sarah Gregory is the User Research Lead at Coinbase, helping to build an open financial system for the world. Prior to Coinbase, Sarah led research for Ancestry.com and worked at a design agency for clients such as Marriott, Allstate, Harley-Davidson, and TurboTax.

Sarah's academic background is in cognitive science and linguistics, doing speech production research in labs. In a past life, she was a CX consultant and behavioral analyst for call centers and is trained in the communication model that NASA used to screen astronauts.
