Sunny Washington is the CEO of Ardusat, an edtech company that is focused on inspiring students to be interested in STEM by connecting them to space. Ardusat provides schools a complete STEM solution that includes an interactive data platform, curriculum, and professional development to prepare teachers and students to send their code to satellites in orbit.
Ardusat gives K-12 students and teachers the opportunity to conduct experiments in outer space. Actual outer space. They tell kids to reach for the stars and Sunny gives them a satellite to get there. Offering an open platform curriculum, the program was available for the first time in the 2014-2015 school year and had participation in the US, Brazil, China, Guatemala, India, Indonesia and Israel.
It’s no small task to engage students in STEM education, Sunny’s efforts are dramatic, immersive and literally out of this world.
Sunny has spent most of her career working in edtech at companies like Instructure and Certiport. At Instructure, she was one of the first seven employees, starting out in a tiny office space in Lehi, Utah. Over her next two and a half years there as Director of Business Development for Canvas, she focused on generating revenue via direct sales to the higher education and K-12 markets. She also established Instructure's documentation for RFP response, implementation and account management processes, and built the company's stellar partner integration program.
At Certiport, Sunny developed the strategy and direction of the Internet and Computing Core digital literacy program. She coordinated marketing, sales, and product teams to ensure successful adoption and implementation of the program by academic institutions in 80+ countries worldwide. She also stablished teacher/community programs, product competitions, and managed several advisory boards.
She’s passionate about education and wants to make sure that all teachers and students have access to tools that can provide a more positive education experience. She has over 14 years’ experience in building new programs, establishing sales channels, international partner development, and marketing in the education technology industry. She is also involved in the Women’s Tech Council and is particularly interested in introducing young women to STEM and cultivating their learning and growth in that space. Sunny’s a natural leader and a trailblazing entrepreneur.
When she’s not trying to change the world, Sunny loves spending time with her husband James, daughter Jasmine, and their dogs Jack and Jill.
