For the second straight year, TEN is participating in the USC Alumni Association's annual Day of SCervice, a unique opportunity for Trojan alumni communities across the country and across the world to work together on the same day to do some good. Last year, TEN partnered with Young Storytellers and USC's School of Cinematic Arts to offer an interactive introduction to film studies for local elementary school students and this year we will continue to volunteer in service of the arts.
The Motion Picture & Television Fund provides elder care for retired entertainment industry professionals who need it and has been serving the film and television community at large since 1921. Its co-founders include the likes of Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and D.W. Griffith, all key figures in the establishment of USC's first film school. On Saturday, March 11th, TEN members will have the opportunity to spend the day at the MPTF's Wasserman Campus and provide activities and companionship to residents who devoted their lives to the business we love, all culminating in a catered lunch provided by TEN.
The day starts with a light breakfast at 8:00am and a short presentation about the MPTF and the services they provide. Therafter, volunteers will assist in planting flowers outside of the campus' new theatre. Each volunteer will then be paired with two residents to have lunch and share stories about working in entertainment. Please visit the MPTF website to learn more about this great organization, including how you can get more involved.
Please note that space is very limited for this event, so be sure to sign up quick, but also please make sure you are fully intent on attending and let us know immediately if your availability changes. Upon sign up, we will reach out to you with additional information as the Day of SCervice draws near. For any questions, please contact TEN Executive Board member and President-Elect, Michael Hartman at firstname.lastname@example.org.
