Event description

Description

This is a week long afternoon camp for students ages 9-14!

Have you ever wondered how Civil War troops marched onto a battlefield? Have you ever wondered how they loaded civil war cannon or what a cannon sounds like when it’s fired? Ever wonder how cavalry troopers fought on horseback? Have you ever met a cavalry horse? Then you will love this week! From Sumter to Appomattox explores the strategies and military tactics of the Civil War through a hands-on, interactive experience. Come learn about infantry, artillery, and cavalry from a leading historian and active re-enactor.

Dr. David Decker holds a MA and a Ph.D. Degree in History from Michigan State. He regularly teaches introductory courses in African history, Middle Eastern history, European history, and Geography. Outside of class, he is also a Civil War reenactor and rides in a cavalry unit. He portrays Federal and Confederate cavalryman with impressions of the Federal 1st United States Cavalry Regiment and the Confederate 1st South Carolina Cavalry Regiment.
