Event description

Description

This is a week long morning camp for students ages 9-14!

Have you ever wondered why we can’t just jump in the air and fly? Have you ever looked at a tree and wondered how it’s made? Ever wondered why we think the way we think? Mad about Science has the answers! Students will be introduced to human biology, environmental science, psychology, biochemistry and physics in fun and interactive ways. Participants will conduct scientific experiments and explore first hand the environment in which we live. There will a number of guest presenters who are USC professors from various disciplines, and this year, as special guest, we will have the Greenwood Genetic Center Mobile Science Lab! Seats will fill fast!

Dr. Dan (the science man) Kiernan, is a senior biology instructor at the University of South Carolina Sumter and has a PhD in Science Education from USC Columbia and a M.S. in Biology from Central Michigan University. When not teaching or conducting research, Kiernan advises USC Sumter’s Student Government Association, works with students on independent research projects, is annually involved with South Carolina Junior Academy of Science, is a reviewer for journal submissions, organizes science camps for local school children in the Sumter area and presents at various venues.
