In October 2020, the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc launched, By Black and ByBlack.US, the most holistic solution for finding Black businesses and certifying black-owned businesses. When we think about the universe of Black business, we recognize this project is a massive and nuanced challenge. Reaching the 2.6 million Black businesses in America, online, requires a moonshot solution.
We’ve partnered with companies like Google to reach a larger community of Black businesses and champion the importance of membership and certification. We are evolving a new Black business certification process for our chamber members and business owners because currently, there is no program that strictly certifies Black businesses. There are a number of programs for minority-owned business enterprises (MWBEs), disadvantaged business enterprises (DBEs), women-owned businesses or LGBT businesses – but none specifically identify, target, and attempt to source solely Black firms.
