Event description

Description

The 2019 USA Cycling Pro & Para-Cycling National Championships will be held in Knoxville June 27-30, 2019. This marks the second time all U.S. National Champions in professional road cycling will be crowned the same week under the organizational umbrella of one host community.

This is the third year for Knoxville to host the U.S. Pro Road and Individual Time Trial Championships and its second year to host the U.S. Pro Criterium Championships.

This is the first year for Knoxville to host the Para-Cycling events.

Schedule of Events:

Individual Time Trial National Championships (Oak Ridge, TN) –Thursday, June 27 (7:30am-3:00pm)

The Para-Cycling ITT will be held on a 6.9-mile circuit along the banks of Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, just 30 minutes west of downtown Knoxville. Para-athletes will complete 1, 2, or 3 laps of the course depending on category.

The professional men and women will compete on a modified version of the same course, but with an additional 100+ feet of elevation thrown in for extra challenge and a few daring downhills. The women will do two laps, while the men will complete 3 laps for the title of US National Champion.

Criterium National Championships (Downtown Knoxville) – Friday, June 28 (5:30pm - 9:30pm)

The Criterium will be held under the lights of downtown Knoxville, with the start and finish on Gay Street. The 1.1-mile circuit is fast, short, and technical. Athletes will race for a set amount of time and then a specific number of finishing laps. The women will race for a maximum of 70 minutes and the men will race for a maximum of 80 minutes.

Para-Cycling Road National Championships (Knoxville) - Saturday, June 29 (8am - 2:30pm)

For 2019, the USA Para-Cycling Road Championships comes to the heart of Knoxville. Racers will use the same section of the James White Parkway that pro cyclists will use during Sunday’s USA Pro Road Championships. Merging onto the James White from Riverside Drive, racers will loop the parkway from Riverside to Sevierville Pike multiple times before rocketing back down to Riverside Drive and a fast technical finish at Gov. Ned McWherter Park.

Pro Road National Championships (Downtown Knoxville) – Sunday, June 30 (8:30am - 6:15pm)

The peloton returns to downtown Knoxville on Sunday using the same finish on Gay Street as the criterium did on Friday night. The 7.9-mile route will cover familiar territory, crossing the Tennessee River via the iconic Gay Street Bridge, traversing the signature climb up Sherrod Street, and using the James White Parkway to return downtown through Knoxville’s historic Old City.

Last year speed and heat turned both races into a war of attrition. Come see who can survive what Knoxville dishes out for 2019. The women will race eight laps for a total distance of 71 miles, and the men will complete 14 laps for a total distance of 118 miles.
