What is the Us Now movie and why are we going to watch it?
The Us Now movie "takes a look at how this type of participation could transform the way that countries are governed. It tells the stories of the online networks whose radical self-organising structures threaten to change the fabric of government forever."
Stuck here in the southern hemisphere, we missed out on the launch of the Us Now movie in London and Harvard. But as the movie is freely available online, we thought why don't we stage our own local 'event' (very much in the spirit of Us Now!). So we used this wiki site and Twitter to organise it!
And the format for the evening?
Please aim to arrive between 6pm-6.15pm, so we can kick off with a short introduction and then begin watching the movie at 6.30pm. The movie runs for approximately 1 hour and this will be followed by a panel discussion. For those that want to hang around and continue the conversation, we'll find a suitable venue nearby where people can grab a drink or something to eat.
Who is on our Panel
James Dellow, from Headshift, will facilitate a panel discussion with people including (subject to confirmation):
- Patrick Kelso - An Ashfield Council Councillor;
- Pia Waugh, ICT Policy Advisor, Office of Senator Kate Lundy;
- Sally Rose - Editor at www.openforum.com.au; and
- Lilian McCombs and/or Nick Moraitis - www.makebelieve.me.
A note about our venue
Please note that the venue for Us Now Sydney has now changed to the bioFirst Seminar Room on the Ground Floor of the National Innovation Centre at the Australian Technology Park at Redfern. For details on how to get there by car, train (exit via Platform 10 at Redfern Station) or bus, see the ATP Website or this special Google Map. If you have trouble working out the location of the National Innovation Centre at the ATP, see this map (warning - large graphic image!).
PS A very big thank you to Tony Hollingsworth, from Task Exchange, for making our original venue available to us - we've moved to the ATP because it has a larger capacity. :-)
