Event description
An economist with the Federal Reserve of Kansas City provides an overview of the state of the US economy and the unique effect of COVID 19

About this Event

The downturn associated with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic is unlike any recession the United States has faced in modern memory. In particular, the unique nature of the crisis and its epidemiological origins has promulgated a downturn, and in turn a recovery, with highly asymmetric effects across industries and across the income distribution.

Three key learning objectives:

o Receive an update on the state of the U.S. economy—where are we now compared to previous crises, and compared with the onset of the current downturn?

o To understand how the virus-led downturn has affected different industries in a manner distinct from one another and from sectoral changes associated with previous downturns.

o To interrogate how the nature of the downturn differentially impacts different elements of the income and human capital distributions.
