About this Event

Earlier this year, Iran announced its partial withdraw from the 2015 nuclear deal – one year after President Trump pulled the United States out of the agreement. Since then, tensions between the two countries have escalated, with the U.S. accusing Iran of conducting attacks on several oil tankers and Iran shooting down a U.S. military drone over the Strait of Hormuz.

To discuss what’s next for the U.S. and Iran, join the IOP as we welcome Brian H. Hook, U.S. Special Representative for Iran and Senior Policy Advisor to the Secretary of State, for a conversation with David Sanger, national security correspondent for the New York Times.

As Special Representative for Iran, Brian Hook is on the front lines of policy direction on one of the most significant foreign policy issues of this presidency. Mr. Hook has held multiple high-level positions in the Bush administration, and he is now at the highest levels of leadership in the Department of State under President Trump. Appointed to his current position in August of 2018, Mr. Hook is now widely seen as one of the most influential voices on U.S.-Iranian policy. He previously served as Director of Policy Planning for the State Department.

David Sanger has been on three teams that have won Pulitzer Prizes, most recently in 2017 for international reporting. He is also the author of two best-selling books on foreign policy and national security.
