The Water Contaminant Information Tool (WCIT) is a secure on-line database with comprehensive information about chemical, biological and radiochemical contaminants of concern for the Water Sector. This tool compiles drinking water- and wastewater-specific data in a one-stop, easy-to-use tool.
Course Description: The approximately one hour course covers everything from evaluating contamination early warning indicators to calculating the potential scope of contamination based on suspected quantities involved. The training is designed to introduce new users to WCIT, as well as provide a refresher for current users. The course includes:
A comprehensive overview of WCIT
The information WCIT contains
How the tool can be used
The benefits of use for different stakeholders
The training will include step-by-step instructions for tool functions such as contaminant search, finding and accessing field and confirmatory methods, generating public information reports and several other functions. The course will be limited to twenty participants per training.
Target Audience: New WCIT users and current WCIT users who would benefit from a refresher course.
Contact Information: For additional information on WCIT, please send an email to WCIT@epa.gov.

When & Where
EPA Office of Water, Water Security Division, Water Laboratory Alliance
The Water Laboratory Alliance (WLA) provides the drinking water sector an integrated nationwide network of laboratories with the analytical capability and capacity to respond to intentional and unintentional drinking water contamination events involving chemical, biological, and radiochemical contaminants. The WLA is an integral part of the Environmental Response Laboratory Network (ERLN) that focuses on water.
Formal membership for the WLA was opened in concert with the second phase launch of the ERLN during Fall 2009. As a result of stakeholder interest, the WLA was consolidated into the Integrated Consortium of Laboratory Networks (ICLN).
To learn about plans for inter-laboratory coordination, please contact your EPA Regional Laboratory Contact listed in the "Contact Information" section.
