Event Details

Course Description:

Drinking water and wastewater systems can face major challenges when responding to all-hazards contamination incidents. These challenges include public health concerns, as well as isolating and treating contaminated water. Decontaminating the infrastructure used for storage, treatment and distribution also presents difficulty during the recovery process that enables a return to service.

EPA’s Water Security Division is developing the Decontamination Preparedness and Assessment Strategy (DPAS) to assist water utilities in preparation for contamination incidents. This webinar will provide an overview of DPAS, which is an interactive PDF walking the user through the complexities of the three phases of remediation: characterization, decontamination, and clearance.

Target Audiences:

Drinking water, wastewater and stormwater utilities operators/managers; law enforcement; health departments; laboratories; first responders; emergency responders; public information officers; local, state, and federal agencies.

EPA Office of Water, Water Security Division, Water Laboratory Alliance

The Water Laboratory Alliance (WLA) provides the drinking water sector an integrated nationwide network of laboratories with the analytical capability and capacity to respond to intentional and unintentional drinking water contamination events involving chemical, biological, and radiochemical contaminants. The WLA is an integral part of the Environmental Response Laboratory Network (ERLN) that focuses on water.

Formal membership for the WLA was opened in concert with the second phase launch of the ERLN during Fall 2009.  As a result of stakeholder interest, the WLA was consolidated into the Integrated Consortium of Laboratory Networks (ICLN).

To learn about plans for inter-laboratory coordination, please contact your EPA Regional Laboratory Contact listed in the "Contact Information" section.
