From May 31st through June 2nd, the World Bank, DfID, and GFDRR will jointly host a conference on urban resilience and green urban development in Dar es Salaam.

The first day of this conference will introduce stakeholders to the wide portfolio of urban resilience projects currently operating or soon to be implemented under the Tanzania Urban Resilience Programme - a partnership between the World Bank and DfID that aims to support the Government of Tanzania in its efforts to improve the country's resilience to climate and disaster risk. This day will feature high-level speakers and plenaries as well as experts in the field of urban resilience.

The final two days will consider the impact of urbanization on the environment in Africa and measures that can be undertaken to promote a more harmonious relationship between the built and natural environments within African cities. Recent research and analysis undertaken on this crucial but under-examined area will be presented, and important initiatives which African cities have begun to take to put themselves on a more sustainable development trajectory will be discussed.

An expo area will be open throughout the event with interactive exhibits highlighting urban resilience and green urban development initiatives from across the region.

The audience for the event is anticipated to comprise of 100 people, including: government officials, World Bank staff, and select experts from local and international organizations.

URTZ will be supported by the DFID, the World Bank's Urban Resilience team, and GFDRR staff.
