Event description

Description

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) & the National Association of Multicultural Engineering Program Advocates (NAMEPA) is hosting a symposium for 100 Deans and Diversity Administrators of ABET-accredited engineering schools to share research and actionable institutional interventions, core strategies, and critical concepts for retaining underrepresented minorities in engineering bachelor's degree programs. The URM Engineering Student Success Symposium will be co-located with the 2018 meeting of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) in Salt Lake City, Utah, where ASEE's Engineering Dean's Council also holds its annual meeting.

With the main audience as Deans of Engineering schools, we also welcome diversity administrators who attend as proxies for their school deans.

The main resource we will be using is the NSBE Student Retention Toolkit. The toolkit was developed in partnership with ASEE to address the problem of the declining percentage of African American engineering graduates by providing strategies for helping U.S. colleges and universities change the equation for engineering diversity within their institutions.

The Toolkit is available on Amazon. We will also have printed copies for sale at the Symposium.
