Event description

Description

October's Urban Trek is a walkthrough tour of the new WA Institute of Sport complex which boasts contemporary and dynamic architecture and design. Michael Chamberlain from Sandover Pinder Architects will be your guide for the morning, answering all of your questions and giving you an insight into this impressive project.

Visiting venues with the opportunity to explore from a design point of view is something a classroom just can't deliver and participation in these types of sessions will build your knowledge and understanding of the industry, putting you ahead of the game.

Places are extremely limited, members are able to book now and general public places will open on Wednesday 27th September.

The Urban Trek series are events designed to get you out into community and industry to see new projects happening in Perth, exciting new venues, agencies and showrooms, back of house tours, production plants...the list goes on. Anything that is better seen in person than by finding it on our friend Google.

More about the project via the Sandover Pinder website:

"The Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) which is a joint venture project with dwp/suters archtects, Melbourne, provides a daily training environment for over 28 sports with 14 dedicated programs. The new facility, to commence construction in 2013, will provide accommodation for training, testing, recovery and associated support services for high performance athletes, coaches and support staff within purpose-built spaces and environments. Administrative office accommodation will be provided for coaches, athlete support staff and WAIS’s corporate and administrative officers.

The building’s form is contemporary and dynamic. Expressed structure and the use of a range of clean, strong materials are seen as recognisable visual cues to the sporting nature of the building, inspired by the examination of the elite athlete’s physique in performance. Thus the main elements of the building’s design are deliberately articulated as legible expressions of the relevant physiological elements of the human body, namely the skeleton, skin, muscle and internal organs."
