Urban Permaculture 101
Join us for a crash course in permaculture basics, and hands on application. We’ll cover the foundational ethics and how to address them using social justice strategies, design principles and methodologies, food foresting, soil health, water systems, and plant guilding specifically for Austin!
Come learn with Dani Slabaugh,Theron Beaudreau, David Rodriguez, and neighborhood historians and environmental acitvists from Austin’s eastside. We will explore the theoretical underpinnings of permaculture, its applications to ecological and social justice, and engage in hands on projects including food forest design, and implimentation, guild building, water harvesting, gardening, site analysis, propagation, deep community building, and much much more!
Location: 912 Cherico, on Austin’s east side. We will be implementing systems outdoors, and class may happen outside around the bonfire, or in the main instructor's yurt, weather permitting.
Dates: Jan 18/19 and 25/16 from 9AM to 4PM
Parking: We encourage you to ride your bike, ride the bus, or carpool! Please park near the intersection of Lyons and Tillary on Lyons street and walk north on Cherico - just 4 houses down - parking is a touchy issue in the neighborhood and we strive to cultivate positive relationships with the neighbors.
Lunch: bring a dish to pass for a potluck lunch! BYO plates and silverware - this is a zero waste event!
Enrollment: Enrollment is complete when payment is received, either via cash/check or via eventbrite. Enrollment is limited to 15 students to allow discussion and project based teaching methods. Checks payable to Yard to Table Gardens can be mailed to : Dani Slabaugh, 912 Cherico, Austin TX 78702.

Partial work trade/scholarship available upon request. We aim to remove barriers to all people from accessing permaculture training, but especially barriers to low income people, people of color, queer identified individuals, and other marginalized people. If you would like to attend but have concerns about either cost or other barriers to conducive learning, we’d love to work with you to address those barriers.

Dani Slabaugh: Dani grew up in Lansing, MI, and now resides in a tiny nomadic dwelling (a yurt) in Austin Texas, where she runs Yard to Table Gardens, a permaculture-based landscape and sustainability company. She has worked as a consultant and designer for residential permaculture projects, as well as with the Austin Independent School District, Sustainable Food Center and has taught permaculture cours
es and workshops in Austin TX and Lansing MI over the last several years. She enjoys teaching as much as she does doing, and is excited to share the joy of regenerative design with her students! In her free time she enjoys making fermented foods, watching and learning from her bees, riding her bike, and instigating social change.
