On December 3rd 2016, Urban Mosaic, Inc. will host its first annual benefit gala themed “Empowering Programs for Inclusive Communities” (EPIC), which will be held at The Broad Street Ballroom in New York City. UMC was established because research shows that urban centers and rural villages have become repositories for populations of black and brown boys who have a higher probability of walking the corridors of prison, than the halls of a university. Students of Color face harsher discipline and are more likely to be pushed out of school than children of other races. Youth of color are more likely than other students to be placed in the foster care system, a breeding ground for the criminal justice system. Our goals are to challenge and disrupt the effects of poverty and all forms of oppression as they impact the lives of those on the margins of society. The Harris School For Global Empowerment is an all male boarding school committed to ending the school to prison pipeline by creating a community of empowered youth through stellar educational services for at-risk youth.
When & Where
Urban Mosaic Center For Social Justice
Urban Mosaic is a multi-faceted cultural organization dedicated to the work of creating safe spaces to engage with the community around issues of social justice through the lens of pluralistic diversity.
Through established programs and initiatives that counter the effects of poverty and all forms of oppression, the Urban Mosaic Center for Social Justice addresses social, economic and other justice needs within marginalized communities, helping to create true culture change within communities, businesses, organizations and institutions that serve and connect to some of the most disempowered groups.
The Urban Mosaic Center for Social Justice was founded in 2015 as a national organization. We see all too often how the poor, people of color, immigrant communities and sexual minorities are excluded and marginalized. We are committed to providing essential support and advocacy for elders, people of color, youth, sexual minorities and communities of faith; facilitating the necessary dialogue that opens doors, offers hope, raises awareness and empowers lives.
