Urban Beekeeping: Stern Lessons From a Gracious Friend
Event Information
About this Event
Join us and Jonathan Compton as he talks about the sometimes contradictory relationship between keeping bees and ecological sustainability. Jon will give an overview of how they interact with their bees in an urban context at CFET, and discuss some of the lessons that they have learned from their hives along the way, and include some thoughts on how modern beekeeping interacts with our larger ecosystem. The presentation will include lots of photos of capturing swarms, extracting honey, and dealing with unexpected problems.
Jonathan is an artist, farmer, craftsperson, and jack of all trades who has been working at CFET for the past four years as the Urban Farmer, Youth Program Director, and currently as the Interim Executive Director. He has been grateful for the chance to work in Camden, a city filled with generous people who have helped me to become a better person. He is interested in food, art, nature, relationships, culture, design, creativity, and systems thinking. He likes reconnecting people with the natural world, growing delicious food, reading about complicated subjects, finding common ground, and having a sense of humor.
