Event description

Description

On August 26, at 11:15 (after the 10:00 am service) you are invited to join George and Khouloud Ghanem, Christians from Beit Sahour who now live in Northern Virginia, and the Holy Land pilgrims for lunch featuring maqluba (aka "Chicken Upside Down"). We'll also enjoy pineapple upside-down cake and other treats. The lunch is free of charge, but reservations are required. A free will offering will be received to offset the cost of the meal and to build the gift that we’ll take to Bethlehem.

Over the last couple of years, Christ the King has gotten to know the Ghanems, who were with us most recently on Easter Sunday when they shared with us the crisis faced by Palestinian Christians living in the occupied West Bank. In September, the Holy Land pilgrims from Christ the King hope to connect with Lutheran Christians living in Beit Sahour and Beti Jala, another suburb of Bethlehem. Beit Sahour is the region near Bethlehem where the shepherds watched their flocks the night Jesus was born. With luck, we’ll be able to visit the Ghanem’s family cooperative (a store that sells olive-wood carvings, icons, and other crafts from Bethlehem) and to have dinner with the pastor and members of the Lutheran Church there. We’d also like to take a token monetary gift to support the work of the Lutheran churches and schools in the Bethlehem region.
